Natural Born Loser in Concert
Saturday, August 16, 2008
The local band “Natural Born Loser” celebrated their new album “Cold Days & Whisky” and the formation’s ten year anniversary at this year’s “Kreuzlinger Kulturwochen” in an old circus tent on the shore of Lake Constance.
As the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VR, which would have been predestined for shooting the gig, is in short supply, I had to settle for the only tele lens I could find on short notice - a Sigma 120-400mm 4.5-5.6 OS. Clearly not the perfect glass for low-light shootin and a deviation from my nikon-only policy. I decided to make the best of the situation and see whether the D3’s high-ISO miracle + the Sigma’s OS would let me get away with it. Turns out - it did! I didn’t have to use the 24-70mm 2.8 I had brought for emergency purposes at all - the Sigma performed like a charm and since the D3 gave me near noise-free images at ISO 3200 I took some of my best ever event shots this evening. You can find some of them in the events section.
Natural Born Loser rockin’ the tent (the concert took place in an old circus tent which really set the mood for an evening of musical excellence)
